Ice season is almost here.

I awoke the other day and rolled over to look at my weather station that sits by my bed. It read 26 degrees. It seemed like just yesterday that I was wearing shorts and casting rubber worms under the docks for Large Mouth. Summer passed quick for me this year. I guess a new baby has that affect.  As I walked to the living room I glanced out the window. A full sheet of ice and a dusting of snow covered the pond in my back yard. It was quite a sight this early in November. Ducks had filled the pond just the day before. I guess they are probably in Mexico by now. Wont be long now till we can get the tip ups out and fill the pan with Blue Gill fillets. Ice fishing season is almost here.

The pond is now fully frozen. The larger lakes are still open but I will be heading out today to check on some of my favorite early ice small lakes.

Most area lakes are completely frozen now thanks to some unseasonably cold weather. Care should be taken however as Snow cover is now hiding thin spots and unfortunately will slow further freezing. I was out looking at a few lakes yesterday and found close to 4 inches close to shore. I will probably be heading out this weekend to try for some gills.
