Redemption Day on Minnetonka

Friday afternoon John Haynes and I drove home from Wabasha licking our wounds from a rough final day at the BASS Federation Tournament of Champions. We shared with each other the details of our day and lamented on how the mighty Mississippi had sent us home somewhat bedraggled. Many would have expected us to simply go home and hang up the rods for a few days till the sting had passed but not us. Even though we had not gotten more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night for over a week and had spent the last 7 days fishing hard, we decided to get up early Saturday morning and fish a few more hours on our home water.
Minnetonka has plenty of fish in it. Lots of those are stupid and perfect targets to revive our confidence. Proving to ourselves that we can in fact catch bass when we want to was our basic goal.

We met at the Gray's Bay ramp around 7:00. The lot was already half full of bass boat trailers. Apparently lots of guys were out prefishing for upcoming tournaments. It was nice to be out for fun. John spent some time playing with his gear and I managed a real nice northern on the outside weed line. We hoped around a little without much luck so we finally went to the bridge pilings that always produce for me. Drop Shot in hand I managed two fish over two pounds and we got a nice picture of one of them. (See below) We checked a couple more spots and John started to throw his Mojo Rig along the inside weed line. He caught a couple nice fish and we took a couple more pictures before calling it a morning. Redemption had been achieved.
