Fantasy Fishing's First Event of the Year

Football season is in the books. The days have started to get a little longer and old man winter is starting to loosen it's grip on the northern portion of the country. Pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training but baseball is still a little ways off. There is plenty of good ice fishing left in the season but if you are like me, you are starting to seriously think about the open water and getting back out. If you are a fantasy sports kind of person, Fantasy Fishing may be a good way to get you thinking about fishing and scratch that fantasy itch.

I joined just a couple leagues this year. One has around 85 guys (and gals) in it the other around 670. If those numbers tell you anything, they should suggest that fantasy fishing is for real. A week ago sitting at the dinning room table my wife was reading an article about fantasy fishing in Time magazine. I think she thought I was just goofing around with my bass club buddies last year when I participated in a fantasy league. Now she knows that it is a national phenomenon. FLW is forking out big bucks to try to gain a larger fan base. Last years one million dollar winner came from a small town just north of me here in Minnesota. Other people from all other the country won prizes ranging from $100,000 to hats and shirts.

No big checks for me this past weekend. In my mind David Fritts is a good angler but a little past his prime. Apparently I was wrong. Many of the pundits had picked him to finish well but I ignored that and stacked my team with local anglers. Many of them must of had localitis as only two Alabama boys made the 10 man cut. I finished 48th in my smaller league, 353rd in the bigger league, and am sitting in 19,327 in the nation. Hopefully I can do a little better as we move through the season.

If you are interested in joining or starting a League, follow the link below for more information. It's free and it's fun. I would recommend the players advantage for 10 bucks but you dont have to if you just want to try it out for a little while first.

Have fun!
