Last Hooray for Many Ice Anglers This Weekend

The Minnesota season closes for Northerns, Walleyes and Bass this weekend. There are a bunch of ice fishing contests and events going on though to let you get out and enjoy the end of the season. Below are is a list of fishing events and tournaments taking place this weekend. I included one that I had not known about until this week (Wannaska Lions). I have also included a few just for fun type events. Who can pass up a German Mardi Gras or a nice glass of Boch? Certainly there is an event near you to get you out and enjoying the last days of winter. Remember to set your TiVo to catch the highlights from the classic this weekend.

The Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake will offer a Dog Sledding Event on Saturday, February 21. Come discover the world of a “dog-sledder,” meet real mushers and their dog teams, learn the art of skijoring and cross-country skiing with your dog, and see the Wildlife Science Center’s resident wolf packs. Turner Hall and other locations throughout the city of New Ulm will be the site of Fasching on Saturday, February 21. This German Mardi Gras features music, dancing, ethnic food and drink, a rock dance, and a hilarious “Parade of Costumes.”

A Bird Banding Demonstration will be offered at the Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester on Saturday, February 21. Come see birds released after they’ve been studied and banded. Some program participants may even have a chance to hold and release these birds. Information 507/281-6114
