Local Anglers Fight Back Against BASS Marshals Program

If you were thinking about fishing as a co-angler this year for any of the BASS Elite series events, You were probably a little upset to learn about the demise of the co-angler. I myself have been fairly vocal about my feelings on the topic. Well some local anglers in Virginia have taken a stand to show how they feel about the "Marshals". They will be holding a tournament on Smith Mountain Lake  at the same time as the Elite series pros.

The tournament will be a four day event with cash prizes for both boater and non boater divisions. Bonus money will be paid for bringing in a larger sack than the winning Elite Series Pro.

I think this is a very interesting concept. I can only assume this event will pull from the Marshals program. It will definitely affect the way guys fish. It will be interesting to watch the footage following the event and see how much the additional pressure affects the tournament outcomes. Had I known about this event a little sooner I would have made an effort to go down and fish. My in laws live on the lake and I have fished it several times including the last Elite Series event that was there. I think I will be a little too busy to get down there next month.

For more on my thoughts about the Marshals, check out my past entry "BASS Elite Series squashes the little guy".

It sickens me that you even acknowledged what these guys are doing let alone condoning it.

      Take it easy Rich,
I think you can take interest in conflict without participating. I purposefully kept this post fairly neutral in opinion. Yes I referenced my past post where I blew off some steam, but in this post, I am merely letting others know about an event that seems to be in protest of the recent change. How will it play out? I find that interesting. To be honest, I will be surprised if they are able to get 100 boats. If they do however, will BASS take notice?

I guess I heard about the event a long time ago, but decided it was not worth talking about or giving them any publicity. Just my thoughts

Wow, your about the first person I have heard that didn't condemn the Beat the Elites in no uncertain terms. There are a lot of people not happy with it and they are being vocal. Personally I don't really care. I consider having other people on the water just one of the obstacles that makes fishing interesting. It seems like there are multiple instances in the year when the Pro's are on the same water on the same day as other tournaments. It's just a part of the game.
